Never knew there was a Gold Key version. Only have seen the Marvel version. Nice splashpage, even if I never did like the art of Rudy Nebres. He was as recognizable an artist as, say, Adams or Buscema, and he did a lot of barbarians, but he was not my favorite.
The Gold Key JOHN CARTERs were my intro to ERB when I was a kid. I was surprised to learn decades later that these were in reprints from Dell editions form the 50s. And I was even more surprised as a teen when Ballantine brought back into print the actual novels (with those great Bob Abbett covers and a friendly 50 cent price) so I could finally read the tales the comics were based on.
Dammit! I was completely unaware of this version of John Carter. I only just discovered the version DC did in the book Weird Worlds.
